Wassail is a traditional warm, spiced beverage often associated with Christmas and winter celebrations. Here's a simple recipe to make wassail:
Ingredients:
- 4 cups apple cider
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1 cup cranberry juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup honey or brown sugar (adjust the sweetness to your taste)
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- Optional: sliced apples and oranges for garnish
Instructions:
- In a large pot, combine the apple cider, orange juice, cranberry juice, and lemon juice.
- Add the honey or brown sugar to sweeten the wassail. Stir until it dissolves.
- Place the cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and ground ginger in a piece of cheesecloth or a tea infuser. This will make it easier to remove the spices later.
- Add the spice bundle to the pot and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Remove the spice bundle from the pot, and you can discard it.
- Ladle the wassail into mugs, garnish with apple and orange slices if desired, and serve it warm.
Enjoy your homemade wassail!
